Ruuvi Gateway: Cache data for network downtime

This post is manually migrated from Ruuvi’s old feedback page.

Have e.g. 24 hours of cached data to send the data to the backend in case of network downtime

IMO the data resolution could be drastically reduced depending on the cache size, to something like one value per 5 or 10 minutes (6-12 values per device per hour).

EDITED after reading telegram posting 10/4/21 which prompted this suggestion due to nightly outages inflicted by elisa turning off some network nightly.

I think this post feature should be reupped.

Especially as business user we have the following problem:
Missing data is quite critical. We would like to use the ruuvis for monitoring purposes but this missing feature or specification is critical.

We are using the ruuvis for temperature mappings of storage areas but after that we have to switch to another brand which has the capability to cache the data after a downtime and send it to the cloud when the connection has rebuilt.

I mean the dataloggers have the storage capacity and are able to send the data to a bluetoothdevice but not directly via Gateway, which would be essential to use them for monitoring in more regulated areas.

Best regards,
Will

Can you use an inexpensive battery backup for the gateway ?
(and the router and host)

Our Gateway is built with very simple parts, i.e. there’s 2 microcontrollers rather than full-blown system on a chip with OS running.

Same goes with our Cloud service, it is built with very streamlined architecture. On the positive side, this is how we can offer cheap subscription plans, on the negative side it also means that we cannot offer advanced features.

This is a feature that gets requested often, so we might build a product that would fill the need but I cannot make any promises right now.

In meantime, you could look e.g. into Kaltiot smart tracker solution: Kaltiot Smart Tracker: A smart solution for remote monitoring - Kaltiot. They offer a full solution to collect logged data off the sensors in different environments.

Dear Otso,
thank you for your feedback (sorry I have not got a notification, that is why my answer comes so late).
We had already contacted KaltIOT. It is a good solution, but it needs several adaptions. And it makes not so much sense as your Cloudapplication is already quite okay and only misses some points to make it more usable for our needs. Especially the data upload of the historic data if there was a connection fail and that the data is condensed to 15 min are the main points which would be great if they got optimized for the business users. I think if you and KALTIOT would create a business solution together everyone which uses the Ruuvis for business would benefit.
