Garmin Connect IQ watch widget

Do you own a Garmin watch that supports BLE (list here)? Try out the unofficial RuuviTag widget at:

This is cool! I wasn’t aware that Garmin would support BLE broadcast scanning.

In deed it is

Fenix 6 series and Edge 830 has been in the market since last autumn, but they are not in the list yet …

Garmin is very slow in updating their list of compatible devices to Connect IQ Devices

Super! Any plans to show historical RuuviTag data in the widget too, such as 6h, 24h, 7d?

No current plans and no spare time unfortunately!

If you or someone you know is handy with software, please consider contributing to the source code - GitHub - zmullett/connectiq-ruuvitag: A Garmin Connect IQ watch widget that displays RuuviTag sensor data..

A great pity,

But I guess everyone have to accept that.

Merry Christmas and all the best for 2023 .

Best regards
Stefan.

Thanks zmullett, I’ll consider, thanks for sharing the repo

Hello!

Does anyone have experience with this widget regarding Garmin activities?
My main concern is that does temperature/humidity get also saved to Garmin activity and can be analysed in the future or does this widget only display the data in real time?

Hi @qrl. This widget only displays the data in real-time.

FYI I have now authored a Garmin Data Field that displays temperature during your activities and also logs it to the activity for future comparison. Please find it here:

https://apps.garmin.com/apps/be7c4713-7525-422a-9298-0ee0ec13a1be

This inspiring use case for this was a user who wanted more accurate and localized temperature data during their hiking/climbing, and observed that while they’re wearing their watch, the watch’s temperature sensor is influenced by their own body temperature.

Hi @Jonttu, @66er, @qrl and anyone else who’s interested: I know it’s been forever and a day since this discussion started, but I am now considering building a paid version of the Garmin RuuviTag widget that supports query of historical measurements (in addition to some other improvements). However, I need to understand more about your use cases first:

  • What value does seeing historical measurements on your Garmin device have, above and beyond using the Ruuvi Station app on your phone?
  • What time period(s) would be useful for this historical data, and why?
  • Does the Data Field product already satisfy your needs (given that it records to your activity log)?

Hi @zmullett ,
would it be possible to create the same thing garmin tempe used to do (they recently discontinued this product)?
It was just a simple widget, which could have been accessed within the menu. It showed temperature and historical maximum and minimum within past 24 hours. The question is, if the ruuvi sensor however can store this historical data, without being pared to the watch constantly.

Hi @PetrV. I believe it’s possible, as one can query a RuuviTag for some amount of historical readings. I’ve been thinking about building a premium version of Connect IQ Store | Watch Faces and Apps | Garmin that would do this, but it’s quite a lot of work for a fairly modest user base  It may be useful however to explain your use case to me though (please refer to the questions in my earlier comment: Garmin Connect IQ watch widget - #11 by zmullett)

@zmullett Thanks for quick reply.
My use case would be exactly what garmin tempe used to do, but now its no longer possible to buy it. Therefore if there is alternative with ruuvi sensor, there might be a user base for, because I saw several forums, where people asked, if they know about some shops, which still sell the garmin tempe. Neither is it possible to buy used ones, I didn’t find any within 400 km radius.

I’m attaching a picture of the functionality, that’s the major reason, why would I buy this app.
If you scroll on your garmin fenix 7/8 watch up or down, there are “widgets” (I’m not sure if this is the proper name for it) like heart rate, stress, sleepscore… With the garmin tempe I used to add this one to the list, so it is quickly and easily accessible - the “build in official garmin temperature widget used build in temperature sensor (when tempe was in reach however, it prefered the data from tempe instead of internal temperature sensor).

It shows temperature and max/min within last 24 hours, as it can be seen on the attached picture. The 24h interval is in my opinion the best one, since you can check retrospectively what was the coldest temperature during the night when hiking, etc.

Garmin made a smart move to safe battery and the data is updated only when this watch screen/field is selected. I found that garmin tempe send the signal via ant+ each minut (basically how gps works, send signal, doesnt receive anything from the watch)

This would be the major use case for me, the minor one is temperature storage within activity, but I understood, that you made this one work already.

Please let me know, if anything is not clear or you need additional information.

A new premium version of this Garmin Ruuvi Widget is now in active development! It’s offered currently at the minimum allowable app store price while the features are minimal. Please see the store listing for the list of features to come!
