Paying tariffs aside, the $17 charge for DHL handling is a shipping cost. Ruuvi should be able to know this cost and, at the very least inform their customers at the time of purchase of this charge.
Ruuvi is being willfully ignorant at the least or deceptive at the worst. Please update your “Free Shipping” to be more specific than the “Additional costs due to customs, local taxes and import fees might occur” weasel words.
Countless shippers around the world can compute total cost given the price of the items and the shipping destination. Why can’t Ruuvi?
An alternative would be to put all your products on Amazon so that they can provide the total cost. I would have gone this route but the products I purchased were not available on Amazon.
Whenever I purchase something directly from the US (Or any other country outside of the EU), even when the store says free shipping, I always end up paying random fees related to shipping, customs and what-not.
This is just what happens when you end up purchasing goods outside of your own country / economic area.
It’s not really feasible for eCommerce stores except for the really big ones to keep up with all these regulatory related costs on a per country level since there are over 200+ countries and other governed areas in the world with different shipping, customs and other rules.
When an online store offers free shipping, it means that whatever fee the eCommerce store themseves pay the shipping company is covered by them (and the margin you pay on the product) rather than you paying that cost as an itemized line on the receipt.
It does not mean that the eCommerce store covers other costs incurred on the receiving end of the package (tariffs, taxes, customs, warehouse handling, pickup-point change related costs and so forth).
